Web Design Elements: Accents

This will be a brief overview of some of the key elements used in web design today. A design element can be translated into almost everything on a website because of this there are numerous sub-categories of each element from how it’s used. The most common agreed on element names for these sub-categories are accents, focal points, structure, and background. The reason I said “most agreed on” is because depending on your education background, different terms mean the same thing. The best example of the is the text on the page. Some call it the copy, verbiage, text, jargon (all though jargon mostly refers to the use of technical terms in a profession), etc..

Starting with the smallest element, accents are used to set the mood or ambiance of the site. Lack of accents are one of the key reasons why people past on your site and stay on another. Using my website as on example, I have have a few accents. The most important is the RSS feed icon. It’s an image of a billboard with the symbol for the rss and it was made by Dirceu Veiga for Smashing Magazine. The second accent is an image but it’s only part of the image that makes up the accent. The accent in question, your honor, is the links for the web log and the toolbox. As you may notice the red in each word is show the key part of the words like web log which is the full name for a blog.
